Surfing Illawarra is an affiliated body of Surfing Australia who were established in 1963 and are the national governing body for surfing across Australia.

In recent years Surfing Illawarra hasn't generated the same level of community participation  that is now enjoyed by the worldwide surfing community. Our focus is to put the Illawarra back on the global map for surfing, working closely with the community, local board riding clubs and our sponsors. Our ultimate goal is to produce a “Mike Lowe” onto the World Tour (WCT). As we work toward this goal, we will established long term programs to seek out and develop our junior surfing talent.

A fresh new management team led by Paul Oyston and the local board riding clubs are working together to develop surfing in our region.

Winner of the i98 Surfing Illawarra Title 2009 - Nick Squires

The i98 FM Illawarra Surfing Titles 2009 was contested on the weekend in good 1 metre surf at the North side Wonoona beach break after being relocated from nearby Sandon point. The prestigious Illawarra Titles event comprises of surfers in 7 divisions battling it out to qualify for the upcoming State Titles to be Held at Kiama from 2nd to 5th July. In the Grand Masters division (over 50’s), Port Kembla legend John Skinner took home first place ahead of Stephen Cox and Peter Starr. In the coveted Opens mens division Wollongong’s Nick Squires continued his recent dominating performance to outclass Dan Dignam, Tim Bilmon and Michael Hopkins in the final. Squires prize pool for the week now tallies $1,000 after claiming the Werri Slash Competition only 3 days before the Titles win. Squires will hope to maintain that momentum when he competes in the first 3 Hurley New south Wales Championship Circuit events over the next 3 weekends. The i98 Surfing Illawarra Titles 2009

We are pleased to announce the Illawarra Titles for 2009 will be managed in conjunction with our Event Partner i98 FM. Following a tremendously successful partnership with i98 FM for the recent Junior Series we are very grateful for their continued support. - Arnette NSW Junior Surfing Titles   29 July – 2 August, 2009 at Forster/Tuncurry (Mid North Coast)
